SEO: What It Is and How to Leverage It

There is a whole new world of potential clients you can reach over the Internet. Whether you are working on a new website, launching your first site, or want to take your current website to the front page of Google, you absolutely need to implement Search Engine Optimization (SEO).

Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is the art and science of artificially boosting your website and blog to the top of the major search engines, thereby improving the volume and quality of traffic to your company’s website. It is well worth your time, energy and money… if you do it right.

Although developing a blog or website is a critical part of any marketing plan, you must know how to effectively use them to attract more and better clients by not only utilizing foundational SEO components, but also by MAXIMIZING them.

Also, SEO is not a “Do It Yourself” project.  The components involved are far more complex than many realize, which is why it is a good suggestion is to work with a qualified SEO firm that has experience in this highly competitive field.

Three Major Keys to SEO:

1. Google loves fresh, unique, relative content!

Social Networking is one of the best ways to constantly feed search engines the fresh content they are hungry for and will help float your blog to the top of the search engines.  Use blogs and social networks like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.

Another great strategy is to use Videos & Podcasts on your website and places like YouTube and iTunes.  Not only will you be ahead of the game because few businesses are using video on their websites…yet, but using video can significantly increase your conversion rates!

2.  Use the right keywords. Select the right keywords by focusing on 2 areas: geography and description of product or service.

3.  Build inbound links. Get listed in as many directories as you can or barter for links with sites that are non competitive.  All the best directories charge a fee to be listed.

SEO takes time. It’s not a magic wand. Often times a good SEO campaign will take 3-5 months to start producing great results.
