Internet Marketing for Small Business – Part 2 of 3

Add new content often. One of the top strategies employed by top-ranking websites today is the addition of new, relevant content on a consistent basis. This is one of the primary reasons that blogs have become so prolific.  Some businesses are replacing their websites with blogs, because blogs are low cost (or free) and, if done well, will rank better with search engines than a traditional website.

At the least, a blog should be updated weekly. To generate serious traffic, a blog should be updated 3-5 times every week.  Search engines are drawn to fresh content, and the more relevant content your blog provides, the higher it will rank.

Use video to attract and keep attention. Research shows that you literally have less than 30 seconds to impress your website visitors, and the longer visitors stay on your website, the more likely they are to connect with you.

One of the best ways to increase the length of time a visitor stays is by using videos.  Your website videos should be 1-3 minutes long and focus on educating prospects and website visitors about who you are, what you sell and what makes you different than your competition.  Video testimonials from customers make a good addition as well.  Your videos do not need to be professionally produced, but should include your website URL and phone number at the beginning and again at the end.  Once the video is complete, upload it to your website as well as to www.youtube.com for additional exposure.
